newspaper published in the major city of Sydney
in New
South Wales (NSW), Australia.
The Sydney Morning
is published each weekday in a broadsheet format and
in a special Saturday edition with lift out sections.
SMH is owned by Fairfax
Media and is the longest continuasly published
newspaper in Australia.
The Sydney Morning Herald was first called the "Sydney
Herald", had just 4 pages, was published weekly,
and was founded by Alfred Ward Stephens, Frederick
Stokes and William McGarvie in 1831. John Fairfax
bought the newspaper in 1841 and the Fairfax Media
company continues to control the newspaper.
